South African-born Elon Musk is an entrepreneur, business leader, and inventor. He is known for his work with Tesla Motors, SpaceX, and PayPal. Elon Musk’s height is 6’2
Elon Musk is a towering figure in several industries. In the electric automobile sector, he leads Tesla. In America’s privatized space exploration industry, he heads SpaceX and Starlink. Globally, he’s influential in technology and social media through his ownership of X. He is also known for increasing involvement in reactionary politics worldwide.
Few individuals have such a high stature in any industry, let alone the many Musk has dominated. His success comes from his business acumen, engineering skills, and talent for self-promotion. Many people buy into both his mythology and the stock behind it.
But just how tall is Elon Musk? Specifically in feet and inches.
This can be tricky for some celebrities because self-reported heights are often unreliable. Usually, we only know the height of those arrested and stood against a police height chart. For instance, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) can be compared in photos with former President Donald Trump, who is 6’3″ on booking documents.
Elon Musk Height | How tall is Elon Musk?
Elon Musk has been pictured with Donald Trump, and they appear about the same height, though Musk looks slightly shorter.
Online speculation about Musk’s height varies. On the r/MandelaEffect subreddit, user u/johns1993 speculated that Musk was another example of this phenomenon. The Mandela Effect is the idea that our timeline split at some point, leaving some people with memories from an alternate timeline. Examples include the belief that Nelson Mandela died in prison in the 1980s or that Darth Vader said, “Luke, I am your father” in Star Wars.
“I remember him being short (around 5’6) and used as an example of a short guy who attracts women because of his wealth,” u/johns1993 recalled. “I even remember him looking significantly shorter than everyone he’s been pictured with, but apparently, he’s been 6’1 this whole time.”
Despite these false memories, Musk’s height is easy to verify thanks to the Badgerloop program from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Students from this program competed and won third place at a Hyperloop competition sponsored by SpaceX in 2017.
Musk proposed the Hyperloop in 2013. It was described as “a tube over or under the ground that contains a special environment.” It was pitched as an alternative to high-speed rail, though it’s often criticized as a fancy tunnel. Since its proposal, progress on the technology has been slow.
In the 2017 competition, Badgerloop students designed a pod to compete against 30 other teams on SpaceX’s one-mile test track. The design schematics for the pod showed the dimensions, and the team built it to fit Musk, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall. Musk confirmed this when he sat in the pod during his visit.
Claire Holesovsky, the program’s operations director, said, “We were ecstatic to see Elon sit in our pod. He checked out our technology. It was a great highlight in an incredible week for the team.”
Given the design specifications and how Musk appears in photos with others, it’s safe to say Elon Musk is 6 feet, 2 inches tall.
