Taylor Swift brother Austin Swift is an actor, producer, and one of the singer’s biggest supporters.
Born in 1992 to parents Andrea and Scott Swift, Austin grew up with Taylor on their family’s Pennsylvania Christmas tree farm. Around age 9, they moved to Nashville to support Taylor’s budding music career.
“She found singing, and I knew early on that was her path,” Austin Swift told Vanity Fair in 2017. “She was never going to quit – that was her life.”
As Austin Swift searched for his passion, he became engrossed in movies. He later studied film at the University of Notre Dame, trying acting for the first time.
“I’m pretty reserved, so acting never seemed like a good fit,” he told in 2018. “But I got thrust into it and realized it could be creative.”
Now, with several acting and producing credits, Austin is establishing himself in Hollywood. From his acting debut to the sweet ways he and Taylor support each other, here’s everything to know about Austin Swift.
Austin Swift is A Major Film Buff
Much like his older sister, Austin felt somewhat isolated growing up. In his early high school years, when he weighed 250 pounds, he had very few friends, as he shared with Vanity Fair. He found companionship by going to the movie theater.
“I would go to the movies, and Daniel Craig was my friend, and Christian Bale was my friend, along with Clive Owen and Viggo Mortensen,” he told the magazine.
His passion for cinema led him to pursue film studies at the University of Notre Dame. In 2015, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in that field.
As Austin Swift told in 2018, he tends to prefer science fiction movies. Some of his lifelong favorite films have been Top Gun, GoldenEye, and The Empire Strikes Back.
He’s An Actor And Producer
Austin made his big screen debut in 2016’s crime thriller I.T., acting with Pierce Brosnan. Later that year, he appeared with Ben Affleck and Zoe Saldana in the star-studded film Live by Night. After doing more movie roles, he expanded into television in 2017. He had parts in the political comedy show Embeds and Billy Ray Cyrus’ series Still the King.
Over the next two years, Austin Swift took on other noteworthy roles in movies, including Cover Versions and We Summon the Darkness, the latter of which he also co-produced. In 2019, he starred with Tom Felton in the comedy Braking for Whales.
Austin bonded with co-stars like Debby Ryan during his time filming Cover Versions. “The best times were just hanging out between scenes with people who cared about each other and what we were trying to do,” he told in 2018.
In addition to acting, Austin Swift has racked up production credits for his sister, Taylor Swift, over the recent years. He’s listed as an executive producer on her Disney+ documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Sessions, as well as on her “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” music video.
Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend Praises Her Strong Work Ethic
After getting his first leading role in a college production of Six Characters in Search of an Author, Austin found himself adopting his sister’s famously diligent work ethic.
“I got really worried I wasn’t good enough,” he told about anxieties arising during rehearsals. “It became clear I needed to either commit fully or walk away. I started staying after every rehearsal, running the whole play alone, acting every part until sunrise.”
In the end, his dedication paid off: “By opening day, it was a different play, and I felt like a different person.”
Joe Alwyn Impresses with ACM Award Nomination for Acting
Following his sister’s example, Austin Swift earned his first-ever ACM award nomination in 2022. He was nominated by Taylor and her close friend Blake Lively for video of the year for their collaboration on the “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” music video.
This marked the first nomination for both Austin and Lively. As reported by Deadline, Austin Swift worked as a producer on the video while Lively produced and directed.
On Instagram, Austin celebrated this major news. “I was lucky to work with Blake, Taylor, and the whole incredible team on ‘I Bet You Think About Me.’ I’m now so proud and grateful we’ve been nominated for the ACM Video of the Year award!” he wrote, alongside photos of the nomination announcement.
Joe Alwyn and Model Girlfriend Sydney Ness Make Public Appearance
Austin and model Sydney Ness have been romantically connected since September 2022. That’s when they were spotted holding hands in New York City.
In October 2023, the couple made an uncommon public appearance. They joined Taylor at a Kansas City Chiefs versus New York Jets football game.
Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Offer Each Other Incredible Support
As siblings, Taylor and Austin have shown over time that they’ve got each other’s backs. He has supported her on various tours. Meanwhile, she has shouted out his work on social media many times. In 2014, she even skipped the MTV Europe Music Awards to see Austin perform in a play at the University of Notre Dame.
In 2020, Taylor shared a sweet photo of her and Austin (taken by close friend Gigi Hadid) on Instagram. This celebrated National Siblings Day and the premiere of his movie We Summon The Darkness. Alongside it, she described her brother as “one of my best pals,” adding that she was “really proud of him” for his work on the film.
For his part, Austin has shared several touching online tributes to his big sister over the years. When she first spoke out politically in 2018, Austin quickly reposted her statement (supporting Democratic candidates). “When you thought you couldn’t respect your best friend any more than you already do. And then you do,” he wrote.
A few months later, he posted a cute throwback childhood photo of them. His heartfelt caption honored their lifelong bond for Taylor’s 29th birthday.
“I have always had a best friend, role model, and tireless, dedicated champion in my corner. You have pulled me out of fires and carried me up mountains. Witnessing you become the wonderful person you are has been the greatest privilege and honor of my life,” he wrote.
Taylor Swift and Boyfriend Joe Alwyn Spotted at Chiefs Game on Christmas
On December 25th, 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs played the Las Vegas Raiders. Austin attended the game with his sister, Taylor. They watched from a suite at Arrowhead Stadium. Austin dressed up as Santa Claus for the occasion. Together, they cheered on Chiefs player Travis Kelce.
Also attending were Taylor’s parents, Andrea and Scott. Austin’s girlfriend, Sydney Ness, came as well. She seemed to be wearing a sweatshirt from Kansas City store Westside Storey. Taylor had gotten gifted sweatshirts from this boutique.
When Austin and Taylor entered the stadium, they rode in on a golf cart. Austin rang a bell as they walked into Arrowhead Stadium side by side.
